small rugsI have never been much of a diary person and forget things very easily. So there´s plenty I have only faintest recollection because I was too busy to write anything down. Same applies to designing which is mostly done in my thoughts. Unfortunately many plans gets forgotten that way.

Lately I have started to realize the importance of putting thoughts on paper and started this journal of finished and future weaving projects. We´ll see how long I have the patience to take the time but so far it´s been very inspiring. Here´s two small rugs already finished but still unwrapped around the cloth beam.

I made these sketches for two rugs. The one on the left is already woven and the other I have woven approximately 50cm, almost halfway. Both have the same threading but different treadling and color sequences. I can´t wait to get back to weaving. My day-job has taken/stolen a lot of my time lately.

Have a nice weekend!

I have one Christmas tradition which I consider established. Greeting cards made by myself. The cards I made last year are here.
This year I tried something new, I made simple digital illustration: Elf hats with two pairs of eyes. That suits us really well (because R is more minimalistic than me). Unfortunately we missed the discounted due date of post office but luckily these are already on their way.

Yay!
While I was digging the older post about greeting cards I realized this blog is way older than one year. Unbelievable how fast time goes by.

I cannot believe it´s already 4th advent and the last day off before Christmas. I am very busy preparing greeting cards, making presents and wrapping them. It´s very unlikely I get anything done next week because it will be very hectic at the florist. I made this card for R´s birthday earlier (no he dind´t turn 4 but 3+1=31 and received that candelabra). Somehow it´s very fitting for today as well.

1) I found this when I was walking home today. Apparently it is some kind of Valentine´s card. Very cute! I have been wondering how old is the maker and to whom it was for. Sadly, it was lost and I came across to pick it up. If there´s any consolation it made me happy!

2) I received this card via snail mail on the following day from Valentine´s Day. It´s from a friend that always remembers to send cards right on time, very punctually. I don´t mind her forgetting this time (or ever) because on that day/night she were to send this to me, we saw a gig together. This card is made by Lora Werner, apparently she makes very funny animal cards.

More handmade cards

1) a gingerbread cookie from an old and loyal friend who know almost everythig there is to know about scandinavian design

2) a horse portrait from one of my best friends (ever) who loves animals, mainly horses and dogs though

3) a christmas decor card from my old and sweet friend, you could not find any warmer spirit this girl has

4) graphic (not handmade) Unicef-card from very interesting friend who is always dancing and has lots of freckles

5) very complicated collage card from our family´s friend

6) a snowman card from my  dear friend who loves cheese more than me

7) a guardian angel card from my friend I see way too seldom

I might have stated this previously but I love, lurve, handmade/diy cards. I love the fact that it has taken time and effort. Also something delivered with snail mail makes one feel special. This Christmas I was very lucky because I received quite a many.

This is the first lot:

1) from my friend and co-worker, an artist with many important thoughts and tons of inspiring projects

2) from my sweet friend with two adorable retrievers and always so many things to talk about

3) from my friend and co-worker at the architect´s office, an honour to have shared a workplace with her because she´s a lot bigger person than it seems

4) from my dear ex, wit, thoughts and humour beyond regular history teacher

I made this card for a small company this year. It´s a collage and it´s inspired by my town.

Merry christmas to you all! Now I have to work for a couple of hours before I go to my old town for Christmas Eve(ning).

Annie Hall (1977) directed by Woody Allen

In Finland our post has a due date for Christmas cards which are to be sent. It was yesterday and I did manage to get them done accordingly. I have one Christmas tradition and it´s cards made by myself. In past year´s I have done some crazy and time-consuming cards but this year I had to make it more simple because I am working at the florist every day and it´s one busy place around Christmas.

So I made a card with a photograph, taken last year when it was snowy. The image is quite high-key so it doesn´t translate well in above pictures. The picture is black and white (printed with my cheapo printer) with slight magenta-ish color cast. That´s why I framed it with lilac textured cardboard. I also learned how to print envelopes straight from Mac OS Address book with this excellent tutorial. It saved a lot of time with 35 recipients.

Also one of my recurring habit is to watch Annie Hall once in a couple of years so that it´s magic doesn´t wear out (same thing with Twin Peaks). I love this film to bits and pieces. It´s perhaps my favourite film, if I dare say. And it´s the reason I love other Woody Allen´s movies as well. With Annie Hall there´s always something new to see. For example this time I realized Alvy Singer and Annie Hall were splitting up during Christmas.  Another new detail to me was prints framed in Annie´s apartment. Annie had developed those pictures she took while they were preparing lobsters at Hamptons (and she had them on her wall although they had split up).
