chunky woolI have been buying new materials in order to try new things out. These two big cones of rug wool are the gems of my stash. I love the thickness and weight (over two kilos) but can´t make up my mind how to use them well enough.
thicker woolA little stash of little bit thinner yarn but also my all time favourite because of the colour palette and quality. R´s grandmother keeps on bringing me knotted discounted skeins of this yarn in colours I would never find myself picking up without her assistance.
tornI have been recycling old sheets by tearing them into shreds and sewing them together one after another. For future rag rugs.
woolI keep wool for mittens in a cupboard at hand and because it looks so beautiful. I try not to hide yarns because they would be left untouched that way for ages and it can turn into a habit. I´d love to have a huge stash but can´t afford to have one. No endless possibilities but less cluttered home instead.
ragsThese piles can be found around the house though. Textile industry leftovers I re-use in rugs. Genious material and very affordable.
odds and endsI collect the odds and ends in this basket. Not sure why but it seems important.

Well, good weekend for all of you! I´ll be staying home all by myself, today watching Woody Allen theme night on the tv and warping for something new tomorrow. Looking forward!

small onesFinally there was enough light to photograph this bunch! I have been weaving small rugs (approximately 50x75cm) and it was a blast. I could pick up whatever colour that suited my mood. Now off to tie the fringes!

Have a nice Sunday!

ballsNowadays there´s multiple projects around the house at some point in process. I used to have only one and could not leave it before the problem/work was solved. I don´t know when I have become promiscuous but it´s much more enjoyable just to leave the work behind if it´s not going anywhere. After a while it looks different and is solved more easily. Here´s weft skeins for a future rug. Too perfect steel gray to use right now.
mirrorI keep on dreaming of an organized work space but leave piles of stuff behind. I can´t remember when I had the perfect order I think I have lost and keep referring to. Usually in my pictures I tend to dodge this though but you can see it in the mirror.
sketchbookHere´s new rug sketches I have been drawing here and there. After a steady row of three ziz-zag 2/2 twill warps I ought to try out something different so these sketches will have to wait.

selvedgeHere´s the pink one documented and already given to a dear friend of mine for a birthday present. She placed it by her bed and I couldn´t have wished for a better spot for it.
close-upThis rug teached me a great deal of things. I someghow invented a really difficult treadling order for it and could have managed to get that diamond twill effect with much simpler sequence with very slight alterations. Oh well, got over that and learned my lesson. There´s also a few treadling mistakes but they hardly catch eye.
pink oneAlso I searching tips for different techniques for fringes or braiding. I know I skimmed a good book about them but of course didn´t take any notes. Any tips?
rugHere´s the whole rug. I think the size was about 65x125cm. The selvedges look better in real life than in this photo. Also, I am looking forward to paint that floor, perhaps later this year!

heddlesI am making several small rugs on one warp one after another. Perhaps this time a little too much zig-zag because I can´t seem to finish it. I think the warp is 7 metres long in total so quite a many 50x70cm rugs.
growingHere´s one in the middle of the whole bunch. My favourite weft combo: dark gray with off-white with pick-and-pick sequence.
weft basketFound my little red basket painted with my name and daisies. It was given by my grandmother a long time ago and it very much reminds me of her.
upLooking forward to finish this warp and unravel all the rugs! Also I am thinking plain weave instead of these twill lines for a change and ordered new exciting materials to try out.

my roomA perfect day off from my dayjob. Waking up to beautiful sunrise…
rugs againThen some crafts…
botanical gardensAnd then a frosty walk in the botanical gardens taking some pictures.

small rugsI have never been much of a diary person and forget things very easily. So there´s plenty I have only faintest recollection because I was too busy to write anything down. Same applies to designing which is mostly done in my thoughts. Unfortunately many plans gets forgotten that way.

Lately I have started to realize the importance of putting thoughts on paper and started this journal of finished and future weaving projects. We´ll see how long I have the patience to take the time but so far it´s been very inspiring. Here´s two small rugs already finished but still unwrapped around the cloth beam.

treeFinally some daylight. It feels like I haven´t seen the clear sky in weeks. And it´s been very cold as well, -30 celcius degrees a couple of days ago. What a difference a few rays of sunlight can do! I feel so much more energetic.
himmeliThere´s a “himmeli” hanging from the ceiling in my room, it´s a traditional christmas decoration made of stray.
orange sockHere´s the first sock I am knitting with this perfect sock yarn.
getting dressedHere´s my loom getting dressed slowly by lifting the warp before picking the threads through the heddles.

warpingWith this warp I actually started to like the process of warping.
teaDrinking tea and listening to radio. Can´t really rush things because mistakes are more difficult to fix afterwards.
threadsMy warp with these rugs is perhaps the simplest possible. Three threads from the cones that go so well with my 30/1 reed. Cotton and undyed. Back to basics.
two pilesMy warping frame is quite small and the poles are too short to finish warp in one piece so I need to make atleast two.
braidWaiting to be braided together.
fini! Here´s the finished warp for some rugs. Seven metres long.

close-upI am liking this rug with odd colourful stripes across the whole rug. It contains almost all the colors I have in store at the moment.
foldingI had no plans for this one and just picked up my shuttles and wove.
up aboveThe height of the stripes is a result of the lenght of the wefts I had.
on loomI am running behind on my posts so these were actually taken last year. If you want a sneak peek into what´s actually happening right now, you could check out my Instagram feed.
